Flags at Half-Staff for Jason Ensign
August 14, 2026
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek ordered flags at all Oregon state public institutions to be flown at half-staff on August 14, 2026, in honor of Jason Ensign, a 47-year-old contractor with Green Diamond Resource Company. Ensign died on August 6, 2026, while operating a Caterpillar D-6 dozer to help fire crews construct fire lines during firefighting operations on the Wrights Spring Fire in Klamath County. Rapidly changing fire conditions and extreme fire behavior cut off his escape route to a designated safety zone, resulting in his death.
Flag protocol
Flags shall be flown at half-staff at all Oregon state public institutions on August 14, 2026.
