Flags at Half-Staff for R. Lars Herseth

Governor Larry Rhoden ordered that flags be flown at half-staff at the South Dakota State Capitol from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in honor of former state legislator R. Lars Herseth. Herseth, 80, served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1975 to 1986 and in the Senate from 1989 to 1996, holding leadership roles throughout his tenure. The flags honor his legacy as a statesman, agriculture advocate, and former 1986 Democratic nominee for governor.
