Flags at Half-Staff for Kyle Busch
May 23, 2026 – May 24, 2026
Governor Josh Stein of North Carolina ordered all U.S. and state flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise Saturday, May 23 through sunset Sunday, May 24 to honor NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup Series champion who won more races than any driver across NASCAR's three national series. Busch passed away on May 21, 2026, at age 41 after being hospitalized with severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. Governor Stein noted that Busch was not just a talented and record-setting driver, but also a kind person whose loss would be felt throughout the entire NASCAR community and beyond.
