Flags at Half-Staff for Victims of the 2019 Virginia Beach Municipal Center Shooting

Governor Abigail Spanberger of Virginia ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to honor the 12 victims killed in the tragic mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on May 31, 2019. The victims, mostly city employees with a combined 150 years of service, were fatally shot by a disgruntled city employee during the attack, which also left four others injured. This annual observance ensures that the memory of those lost and the impact on the Virginia Beach community remains honored and respected.
Flag protocol
All United States and Commonwealth of Virginia flags shall be lowered at sunrise on Sunday, May 31, 2026, and remain at half-staff until sunset.
