Governor Wes Moore ordered the Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to honor Robert W. Dempsey, a member of the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team with the Maryland Department of Transportation. Dempsey tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Saturday, April 25, 2026, when he was fatally struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash on the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County.
