Flags at Half-Staff for Scott Ries

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ordered U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Rittman Police Sergeant Scott Ries, a 10-year veteran of the Rittman Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on July 6, 2026. Sergeant Ries was fatally shot while responding to a 911 call about a break-in and gunshots at a home in Rittman, Ohio. Flags will remain at half-staff at all public buildings and grounds throughout Wayne County, the Ohio Statehouse, and two other state buildings until sunset on the day of Ries' funeral.
