Flags at Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial
May 5, 2026
Governor Gavin Newsom of California issued a state order on May 5, 2026, directing flags to be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space. This solemn observance honors the brave local, state, and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty. The annual ceremony includes law enforcement traditions such as a riderless horse presentation, flag folding, release of doves, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of Taps in tribute to fallen officers and their families.
