Flags at Half-Staff for Frank Joseph Guarini, Jr.
July 1, 2026
New Jersey Governor Sherrill ordered U.S. and New Jersey flags to half-staff on July 1, 2026, honoring former U.S. Representative Frank Joseph Guarini, Jr., a decorated World War II Navy veteran and seven-term congressman from New Jersey who devoted his life to public service and philanthropy. Guarini, born August 20, 1924, passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 101, making him America's oldest living former congressman at the time of his death. He served in the New Jersey State Senate and later in Congress where he championed legislation on education, trade, and international relations while also becoming one of New Jersey's most prominent philanthropists.
