Flags at Half-Staff for George Gresham

Governor Kathy Hochul directed flags on all New York State government buildings to be lowered at half-staff on June 9, 2026 to honor the life and public service of George Gresham, the former president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East who passed away on May 8 at the age of 71. From his start as a hospital worker to leading the powerful union, Gresham was celebrated as a legendary labor leader who dedicated his career to fighting for working people, communities of color, and the dignity every New Yorker deserves.
Flag protocol
Flags shall be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on June 9, 2026, across all New York State buildings and landmarks.
