Flags at Half-Staff for Cerina Wanzer Fairfax
May 4, 2026
Governor Abigail D. Spanberger ordered Virginia flags to be lowered to half-staff on May 4, 2026, in honor of Dr. Cerina Wanzer Fairfax and to raise awareness about domestic violence. Dr. Fairfax, a respected dentist and devoted mother, was killed on April 16, 2026, in a murder-suicide involving her estranged husband, former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax. The Governor's proclamation emphasized remembering Dr. Fairfax's life, her professional achievements, and her deep love for her children while drawing attention to the reality that domestic violence can affect people in any community.
