Flags at Half-Staff for Dolly Parton
August 25, 2026 – September 1, 2026
President Donald Trump ordered the United States flag lowered to half-staff in honor of Dolly Parton, the legendary country music icon who passed away on August 25, 2026. Parton, 80, died peacefully in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer, leaving behind a seven-decade career that made her one of the most beloved and influential artists in American history. As a mark of respect for her extraordinary legacy as a musician, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist whose Imagination Library has gifted millions of books to children worldwide, Trump directed flags across the nation to be flown at half-staff through September 1, 2026.
Flag protocol
The United States flag shall be flown at half-staff at all federal buildings, military bases, embassies, and naval vessels until sunset on September 1, 2026, with the Maryland flag also lowered to half-staff as no flag may fly higher than the United States flag.
