Flags at Half-Staff for Gabriel Edwards

Governor Tina Kotek of Oregon ordered flags at all Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff on July 29, 2026, to honor Commander Gabriel Edwards, a native of Oakland, Oregon. Commander Edwards died on July 1, 2026, following an emergency helicopter landing in the Arabian Sea while serving as commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5. He dedicated nearly two decades to military service in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter pilot and commander, embodying the highest ideals of duty, honor, and courage.
