Flags at Half-Staff for Leslie R. Washington

Governor Tim Walz ordered all United States and Minnesota flags at state buildings to fly at half-staff on August 13, 2026, to honor wildland firefighter Leslie R. Washington. Washington died following a medical emergency on August 11, 2026, while responding to the Bear Trap Fire near Ely, Minnesota. He served as a member of the K-River 2 crew, a Tribal firefighting team assigned to the U.S. Wildland Fire Service. Governor Walz recognized Washington's courage, bravery, and sacrifice in service to Minnesota and his country.
