Jon Kyl served Arizona in both chambers of the U.S. Congress for nearly three decades. He returned to the U.S. Senate by appointment in 2018. He was known for his expertise on water law, national security, missile defense and nuclear deterrence, and he died at age 84 after complications from a neurological disease. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags lowered at state buildings in his honor.
