Flags at Half-Staff for Patriot Day
September 11, 2026
President Donald Trump has proclaimed September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day and ordered flags at federal departments, agencies, and facilities to be flown at half-staff. The District of Columbia, following the presidential proclamation, observes this directive to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of 2001 and to pay tribute to service members, first responders, and everyday Americans who risked their lives to save others.
Flag protocol
On September 11, 2026, flags shall be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. Raise the flag briskly to the peak for an instant, lower it to half-staff position, and before lowering it at day's end, raise it to the peak once more and lower it ceremoniously.
