Flags at Half-Staff for Patriot Day

Governor JB Pritzker has ordered all U.S. and Illinois flags under the Illinois Flag Display Act to be lowered to half-staff on September 11, 2026. This observance honors the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and pays tribute to the first responders who made incredible sacrifices that day. The flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset to commemorate Patriot Day and remember the heroes of 9/11.
Flag protocol
All persons and entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act shall fly the flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on September 11, 2026.
