Flags at Half-Staff for 9/11 Anniversary
September 11, 2026
Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut has directed all U.S. and state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, September 11, 2026, from sunrise to sunset. This observance honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States and pays tribute to the first responders who served that day. The State of Connecticut, including the Capitol building and all state-operated facilities, will observe this solemn remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of these attacks.
Flag protocol
U.S. and state flags in Connecticut shall be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, 2026. Flags will be lowered on the Connecticut State Capitol building and all other state-operated buildings, grounds, and facilities statewide. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, and private entities are encouraged to observe this same duration. Since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags should also be lowered.
